Bologna
Two kids from the same school
Giulia and Simone met at high school in Bologna. She learned pastry at Pasticceria Bertocchi and gelato in the city's laboratories. He learned coffee behind bars in Italy and Sydney.
Nonna's recipes from Bologna, churned every day at Kinkerstraat 368H in Amsterdam-West. Taste first. Then choose.
Open the lids
Il banco
Twelve flavours live under steel lids at Kinkerstraat 368H, so the gelato stays soft and the light stays out. These are the eight that are almost always there. Put up to three in your coppetta and show it at the counter.
Also in the counter, depending on the week: fior di latte, nocciola, caffè, seasonal fruit sorbetto. The full list changes with the season and with what Giulia finds at the market. See the whole carta.

Chapter 2 · 2/4

2020
Giulia moved north with one dream in her bag. She ran the lab at Miuz and churned for Massimo, two of the best Italian gelaterias in town, and kept the dream.
Chapter 3 · 3/4

Sloterplas
After a workout she talked a fellow gym-goer, Roderick, into her Sunday cold-plunge group. Between dips she told him about the gelateria. He could not get it out of his head.
Chapter 4 · 4/4

2026
Roderick and his business partner Derck came in as partners. In spring 2026 the four of them opened a bright little shop with a striped awning, twelve lids and a coffee machine from Turin.
The long versionLa vetrina
Giulia learned pastry at Pasticceria Bertocchi in Bologna. The case fills up in the afternoon and empties by the evening. What she bakes depends on the day. This is what comes back most.
Nonna's recipe, without alcohol. Also in a gluten-free version.
Flaky puff pastry horns filled with pastry cream, chocolate or whipped cream.
Two shortbread rounds, apricot jam, a dusting of icing sugar. The cow's eye.
Sponge soaked in Alchermes, layered with cream. Bologna's favourite spoon dessert.
Giulia's, baked here in December. Order ahead.

Salato, from the afternoon

affogato, please
Il caffè
Before the shop, Simone pulled shots in Bologna and in Sydney. He will talk to you. About the beans, about the weather, about your day. Sit down for a minute.
Beans from a roaster in Turin, pulled by Simone.
On oat or soy. Ask for it well foamed, the Italian way.
A scoop of gelato drowned in hot espresso. Vaniglia or zabaglione.
Thick, dark, with our whipped cream.
Cosa dicono
4.9
on Google, from 204 reviews, and a 5.0 on HappyCow. Read in September 2026.
Read them allNot only do they have fully vegan gelato (the zabaglione is out of this world) but also typical Italian sweets, and on top they are super friendly and energetic about what they do.
If you're a pistachio lover you can't miss this place! Masterful balance between flavour and subtle, low sweetness.
You can tell immediately that Arte Vanilla takes gelato seriously. Everything is made in-house using natural ingredients, and keeping each flavor under proper metal lids shows how much they care about quality and texture.
Amsterdam has some good gelaterias with some very good vegan flavors, but the quality of Arte Vanilla is at a whole different level.
They make their own nut pastes with a high percentage of nuts, and even spent six months perfecting their own whipped cream. The scoops are very generous.
Non è il classico posto italiano con standard olandesi. È diventata la mia gelateria preferita ad Amsterdam.
I loved every moment, every bite and the whole vibe. The owner is so passionate. Simone: on fire.
